***Elder Pens***
https://elderpens.com
There was a time, not so long ago, when people composed with “writing instruments”. Before we were conditioned to believe that a pen was nothing more than a plastic tube of disposable ink, writing was a dignified task, conducted through a dignified instrument. In those days, you could feel the grain in your grip and the heft in your hand, both tactile reminders of your instrument of expression. Back then – when pens were possessions and not just “things” – the oils from your skin softened and shined the wood to remember the touch of each delicate finger. It was a more civilized age – one of noble contemplation and heartfelt correspondence. I call them Elder Pens because they are representative of a bygone era. Crafted with intention and full of character, Elder Pens are a little reminder of what writing used to be. Here's to what writing could become again.
***Meet David, the penturner***
I never thought I'd call myself a penturner. It's a slow, unglamorous process. If you were to watch me making a pen you'd probably think I was asleep, as I sat unmoving and hunched over the workbench for hours at a time. You'd shops probably fall asleep just watching me! Granted, it's not for everybody, but I find carving to be very calming. Some people have yoga or meditation, but I choose to transform old scraps of wood into beautiful writing instruments. As long as it remains enjoyable, I'll keep searching for new ways to reinvent old pens, Elder Pens.
