This frame had been in the family farmhouse in upstate New York forever. It looks like it dates from the late 1800s (looking at similar items), but just guessing. Picture frames for new fangled photographs were made so they could be hung or stood. This has lost all of its backing but the front is strong and intact. Obviously there is wear and tear, but something this old only is enhanced but that. (That's true for people too, right...right? lol) It might be French, only because I see similar items that are French.
