This unusual pair of elliptical and hollow anklets are made from etched rolled metal alloys (bronze/brass) perhaps of North African or Asian origin.
Used during performance the small pellets of metal encased within the anklets will rattle.
Anklets have use-appropriate wear and patina. There are many signs of the handwork over shops the pieces. And little bits of mud and dirt in the crevices. They could be cleaned, but that would deprive them of much of their character.
Although the “seams” on the underside do not meet perfectly, the beads are encased inside them do not fall out and help amplify the sound.
They measure 5 inches by 2 inches.
The pieces do not open and close and are not in any way flexible. If they are intended to be worn, they would have to slide over the foot.
