This large #7 Cherry Shaker oval yarn is a modern day version of the traditional oval box used in many facets of day-to-day Shaker life.

Made from solid Pennsylvania cherry. No veneers. Shipped only in the USA. Accessories not included.

Uses: Organizing crochet/knitting materials, storage for two shops or more balls/skeins of yarn.

I create my Shaker boxes using many of the same techniques as the 19th century craftsmen. All boxes start as quartersawn lumber, cut, planed and sanded into thin strips. The distinct "swallow tails" are hand cut into one end. The strips are soaked in a hot water bath, bent around a form and secured with copper tacks. Figured wood is used to form the box top and bottom. The boxes are finished on the exterior with a traditional shellac. The box interior is left unfinished. The craftsman's shop logo is branded into the box bottom.
