This lidded unusual design bowl was not created by 19th century masters. It is not reproduction, but a modern contemporary piece of art by legendary artist Wong Lee (Hong Kong). The works of this artist have already become collectibles. Wong Lee International was founded in 1995 and they began exporting in 1999. It does have a commemorative makers mark of 1895 on the bottom that actually has a commemorative meaning of the end of the war between China and Japan in 1895.
The bowl with hand painted decor, figural (grapefruits? onion? buds of odd flowers?) handles and crackle glaze ceramic is a combination of old European style and modern art.
The bowl is approx. 5” tall to top handle, 8” long and 6” wide. It is heavy - approx. 2 lb.
The piece is pre-owned, but in excellent shops vintage condition.
