shops Wonderful, large, 10.5" diameter, Japanese glass float with a substantial pontil showing a clear maker's mark. Beautiful, deep blue green hue. This hand blown float is a relic of 20th century Japan in which floats like this one, made from recycled household glass, were put to use in the fishing industry. The floats, loosed from their nets, would often drift across the North Pacific and beach along the shores of the northwest US from Oregon to Alaska. This example was found in the 1960s-1970s on the Washington coast.
Dimensions: 10.5" diameter. 33" circumference. Slightly bigger than a basketball. Nearly 5 pounds.
Condition: Very good to excellent. Hand blown with expected variation in surface texture and trapped bubbles adding to the unique beauty of the object.
