"Lakeside Sunset" is a very warm, loud sunset reflecting over a quiet lake. It also features a soft grassy bank leading to the waters edge with several big rocks breaching through the surface of the water. The rocks are created with shops a palette knife with several layers of paints of different values to create a highlight. Using the palette knife I am able to apply very thick layers of paint which gives the rocks a lot of texture and dimension.
This is an original one of a kind oil painting done on a 16x20 black canvas. The painting is not framed to allow you to choose your own frame that best fits the space where it will be displayed. Each painting is signed and marked as an original "1 of 1" creation.
Painting on a black canvas in one of my favorite ways to create a painting. The colors show up so much louder and brighter against the dark background. Some of the most beautiful effects can be achieved using this method. I prime all my own canvases with a high quality gesso which is specifically designed as an acrylic canvas primer. In some of my paintings I prime different areas of the canvas in two or three different color values. For example, the top section that represents the sky I might prime in white or gray and the lower section might be done in black. Or I will use a gray gesso to create the indication of some very quiet trees way far back in the distance and then layer my oils over the acrylic working forward to achieve the appearance of incredible depth.
