--------------------------------------------------------------------

One of the swell mystery novels from the Jazz age! I read this one, and enjoyed it heartily! If you like Dorothy Sayers mysteries, my guess is you'll relish this one too. :) Description from the dust-jacket:

"Nobody in the brisk circle of London society into which Bill Boyd stepped, fresh from Texas, guessed that he was there for any other purpose than to enjoy his brand-new fortune. Nobody, that is, except Jack Strickland of Scotland Yard. So that, when Boyd disappeared suddenly after spending a week-end at Coombe Castle visiting Lord Fairleigh, it was Jack who rounded up the closest of Bill's friends and started to thread the labyrinth of mystery that surrounded Bill's relation to Coombe Castle and his suspected imprisonment there.

The whole engrossing tale is told with a breeziness far removed from the stilted melodrama so usual in stories of this type. Besides the very real humanity of its characters, it possesses a jolly humor that enhances the tension of each succeeding situation. Indeed, it might truthfully be characterized as combining the mystery of Oppenheim with the humor of Wodehouse."
