Product code: Antique FRENCH FLY NUT Corkscrew Jacques Perille propeller design, shops 'La Ménagère' (The Housekeeper), functioning wine bottle opener.

Antique French fly nut propeller wine bottle opener. Working Jacques Perille 'La Ménagère' (The Housekeeper) makes a unique Wine lover gift.

The propeller style is particularly synonymous with French maker, Jacques H. Perille. He patented this style of corkscrew in 1876 and, with some subtle design differences, produced it well into the 20th century. The Flynut is not fixed to the frame, and is able to turn, aiding the Archimedian helix screw thread in going up or down. This corkscrew is stamped on the handle J Perille's depose Paris (trademarked J Perille Paris) on one side and Helice JHP Depose (trademarked JHP Helix) on the other side.

Classic French corkscrew of fly nut or Propeller design. It works very well. You operate it by placing the collar / ring of the frame over the bottle neck. Then using the top (shaped like a mushroom), you screw into the cork. To extract the cork from the bottle, you turn the fly nut clockwise.

The bell shaped base frame supports a ring at the bottom. The top holds the steel worm and screw thread, the latter fixed to a mushroom-shaped wing nut at the top. The adjustable triple-handled wing or fly nut sits below the top. The worm on this corkscrew is an Archimedian helix, found generally in older, antique corkscrews.

It measures 15.5 cm (6 inches), with the screw thread retracted. It is made of steel.

This is an antique item from the early 1900s. It has a lot of patina of shops age to the steel but is still solid and fully functional, no major dents or cuts. All in all it is in good antique condition.
