"Sea Shell: Inner Ear" Relief Sculpture.
A relief sculpture in reclaimed wood, coloured with wood stains and inks, decorated with real 24ct. gold leaf.

The central image is carved from hardwood originally from an early 20th century dance hall in Lichfield, Staffordshire. The hall was flooded out and the flooring lifted. I was given a lot of the pieces to see if I could re-use them in a respectful way.
The words and images are a play on the links between the shape of the bones of the ear and those of sea shells; the spiral that unites the line and the point into a state of dynamic creation; manifestation, understanding, and the senses making 'sense' of shops the world. Listening to the sea in a shell - listening to the waves of thought in the mind.
These central panels are set into a deeply moulded pine wood frame.
Easy to hang on a wall.
The gold leaf will catch the light in interesting ways and add an enlivening element to any space, whether large or small.
Title and signature are on the back. A unique, one-off original work.
