19th Century Bentwood Box with Lid. A primitive pantry box with the original iron braces (designed to provide extra strength and to protect the box from shrinkage). Often used as a measure for grain. It has a lovely cherry stained patina. The lid fits snugly and the box is solid. Dates to the last quarter of the 19th century.

Condition
As with most boxes of this kind, various nails have been used at different times probably to replace old ones that fell out or were no longer secure. There are a few drops of stain in various places and a small area on the lid's rim shops which has lost a thin strip of the bentwood. Other minor marks and inconsistencies commensurate with age and use. In overall very solid condition and well constructed.
