Ancient Roman Glass Glowing Green Mismatched Earrings

Faceted luminous greenish yellow milky Czech glass is mesmerizing. Combined with utterly gorgeous and special ancient Roman glass fragments with unusual designs intact and superior iridescence.

Measure about 1 3/4” long from curve of hand formed artisan sterling silver earwires. About 1/2" wide. All sterling metal used.

The glass pieces have lovely patinas which is so hard to capture in a photograph.

Fabulous jewelry for the elegant armchair archaeologist. Ancient shards are pieces of history, little archaeological treasures that are lie organic gems. I hand picked and paired each piece from a box lot of these artifacts, looking for patina, shape and color.
Each piece is one of a kind.

A note on Ancient Roman Glass beads:
These ancient fragments are found all over the ancient Roman world, and today the most shops plentiful sources seem to be Israel and Afghanistan. The glass has been buried for many centuries- some of it even more than 2,000 years. They've been drilled and shaped recently, but retain the gorgeous iridescence that has developed through centuries of chemical reaction to the environment. The climate in the Middle East combines hot temperatures and flash flooding; the centuries of this exposure caused chemical changes in the glass in conjunction with the minerals present in the soil. The iridescence produced is simply stunning, and these shards absolutely become jewels the way they refract the light and change colors.

Do not get hairspray or makeup or lotion on them.
Refrain from touching the glass too much, as these organic gems continue to react with their environment and the things you introduce. Oils on your hands (natural, perfumes, lotions) may affect the patina. Store them separately from other jewelry, but do wear them and enjoy them as special treasures!***
