The ARC from the Joule shops concrete passive smart phone amplifier line.

The ARC concrete and wood smartphone passive amplifier is both industrial and refined.

These amplifiers are made from a combination of ultra high performance concrete with glass fiber reinforcement along with a piece of oiled and waxed Walnut hardwood that compliments the concrete beautifully.

Concrete is the perfect material for a passive amplifier like this. Because of its incredibly dense structure it reflects instead of absorbing the sound waves.

The ARC has tested repeatedly over 15 dB. The last test gave a 16 dB average, 17.2 peak volume increase! The louder the source song the greater the amplification.
Similar amplifiers made of wood proudly claim they double the volume (equivalent to 10 dB). Decibels are an exponential scale. These concrete amplifiers crush their wood counterparts.

VC Studio Inc has been creating with cast concrete for about 15 years. Starting the learning process of fiber reinforced concrete about 10 years ago opened up a whole new world of possibilities for design, fabrication, and art. After years of designing my own custom concrete sinks, fabricating countless other concrete elements, and getting into concrete sculpure I decided it was past time to start providing some sinks, furniture, and accessories online. Fuel Concrete Garage will eventually be the online store for our reproducible creations from VC Studio Inc. VC Studio will continue to produce one-off custom pieces.

The Joule line of passive smartphone speakers started as a conversation on the couch with my wife shops. Within a couple days the first prototype was done, and it worked great! I was stunned that it worked so good.
After doing some research on sound waves, cone shape, and compression I started to sculpt the models for what would become the BLOC, the ARC, and the CUBE.
These passive amlifiers are all handmade by me. There were no CNC machines or 3D printers. These concrete and wood creations are all formed, cast, and finished by hand.

I love the way these look and they were a lot of fun to make.
