This is a sweet antique silver-plated baby rattle complete with tiny teeth shops marks on one of the decorative balls (see photographs.) it is marked “Webster Sterling” and has the arrow and “CW” maker mark. This mark was first used in 1894. The style and wear on the rattle leads me to believe it is Edwardian so I have dated it in the 1900-1910 period. Webster Company is listed as an American Silver-plate company founded in 1869 and operating out of North Attleboro, MA. They remained in independent operation until 1950, when they became a subsidiary of Reed & Barton. The rattle still contains the original bell and makes a sweet chiming sound when shaken. There are the three teeth marks which I mentioned, but I believe they just add to the charm of the piece. There is some wear to the silver-plate but the maker's mark is cleanly and clearly stamped. The piece measures approximately 3 1/2” long, 1” wide at the decorative balls and 1/2” at the center. This would make a lovely antique baby doll accessory.
This is a antique item in “as found” condition and is sold “as is.” I make every attempt to note flaws in the item description but please, review the photos carefully.
