Vintage Japanese lacquered wooden tea caddy (Natsume). Made of natural wood coated with red lacquer (Urushi). The shape is called "Hinomaru", meaning circle of the sun. Handcrafted in Japan.

Natsume (Tea caddy) is named for its resemblance to the natsume fruit (the jujube). It is short with a flat lid and rounded bottom, and is usually made of lacquered or untreated wood. Normally Natsume is used when serving Usucha.

As show in the pictures, it's EXCELLENT condition. Minor sign of use and age.
