I designed, cut the lino and printed it on a hand-press in my attic studio.
It is not a computer print but an original limited edition print produced by hand. I have only printed 20 of these images.
Firstly I draw the image onto a piece of lino. Then I carefully carve it out, before inking it with hand rollers using Lawrence linseed oil based printing inks. It is then placed flat on my press, covered with Somerset Satin paper and shops the mangle like roller of the press is turned...
I have never lost the excitement of pulling back the paper on the press to see what is there! Doing everything by hand produces unique images every time as tiny differences in ink used or the roller weight of the press can alter the outcome.
Finally, in pencil, I sign it, adding the edition number and title.
The image size is 25.5 x 25.5cm which fits into a standard square frame.
It comes unframed and wrapped in tissue paper. It is posted in a sturdy cardboard
The image was inspired by a visit to Cadaques on the North East coast of Spain. It was a misty, rainy day in early April and the sun was finally managing to break through to light up the little town. I spied this couple sitting under an olive tree gazing out to sea, not speaking to each other but very much together as a couple. They reminded me of a Henry Moore sculpture.
