Product code: Pâte-Sur-Pâte Nude Maiden Artist Signed Trinket Dresser shops Box-Antique Classical Decoration Blue & White Porcelaine de Paris Limoges Porcelain

Offering a fine antique Porcelaine de Paris dresser or trinket box, handpainted in slip with an ethereal white, Pâte-Sur-Pâte cameo image of a nude beauty.

The seated maiden extends her hand to a bird in flight, perhaps a dove, which she is about to put in a dovecote. Another one flies overhead. The scene is likely an alry of Peace. The triangular, geometric form of the box suggests manufacture in the 1920's art deco period, a timeline which fits well with the longing for peace in the post WWI era.

The rim of the box is trimmed in gold, and there are sprays of gild flowers ringing the sides of the box.

The base is stamped “Porcelaine de Paris, France” in blue. The image is signed "TOM" in gold in the lower right (please use zoom feature). I have not been able to conclusively shops determine who that artist is; some links suggest it might be Thomas Mellor, one of the artists trained by Marc Louis Salon when the latter settled at Mintons. However, the most definitive sources have Mellor's pieces signed as TM, so the attribution is not definitive. It is in the style best known of that practiced by Camille Tharaud in Limoges.

Size: 5" long x 4-1/4" deep x 2" high.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition - slight wear to the gold on the cover's rim; no other issues.
