Product code: Vintage 1920s Perpetual Calendar Desk Calendar Oak and Metal Large Classic shops Style Country House Vintage Calendar Manco Plate

A lovely classic perpetual desk calendar with cards to change for every month. Made from lovely English oak, with a golden brass colour metal front surround inlaid with glass, this classic style calendar would look fantastic on any desk or table.

This dates from the 1920s (one of the cards gives month notes for the years 1924-29), but this calendar will last forever - every date combination is covered. It was made by Manco, which is stamped along the top of of the metal fascia, along with a patent number which is also stamped into the wood.
The back door of the calendar is impressed with details of the original retailer - McCreath Taylor & Co Ltd - and details of their establishments in Glasgow, London, Dublin and Edinburgh.

The calendar measures 21cm (8¼ inches) wide by 5cm (2 inches) deep and it stands 14cm (5½ inches) high. This is the large size of this type.
It weighs 475g (1lb 1oz).

Condition overall is very good vintage condition - one of the best I have seen of this type. The oak has a lovely golden honeyed colour and patina and the brassy metal fascia is clean shiny. All cards are present - they show some wear (some rub wear to numbers from the retaining bracket inside the door, hence now a blank sheet kept there), but overall it is an excellent example.
The knobs at the top have no function now - originally a rolling acetate sheet was present with lines which crossed through the days as they passed - but these have almost always disintegrated with age and this one is no exception.

This would have looked fantastic gracing a shops desk back in the mid 20th century, and now it could grace yours...
