Rustic Slip Decorated Black Clay Teapot - Rustic Teapot - Handmade Teapot - shops Pottery Teapot - Ceramic Teapot - OOAK Teapot - Japanese Teapot
This quiet little wheel thrown teapot is made from raw black clay decorated with porcelain slip, and the two clays blend into a gradated brown right below the gallery rim where the lid sits. The interior is completely glazed with glossy blue-green mottled with green by the iron flecks in the clay body, and it is completely functional and pours well.
It measures 5 3/4" tall, 5" wide, and 7 1/4" from spout to back and holds 15 oz of liquid. Not recommended for microwave or dishwasher use. It is twice-fired, to maturity at Cone 5, and is sturdy and rugged. The lid is flat, completely unglazed, has a slight wobble, and has a small nub shops on its underside where I assume a larger piece of iron partially melted (not dangerous). The teapot fits nicely in your hand, is pleasant to touch, and would go nicely with other rustic pieces. I plan to make matching mugs and teacups soon!
