Set in the San Francisco of the early Jazz Age and in the era of the Barbary Coast, this is the story of a Pacific Street dancing girl and her romantic entanglement with a man from a prominent California family living in Pacific Heights. While she is trying to escape her sphere of life, he is merely studying her. Many Bay Area scenes are presented, from shops the Barbary Coast and Chinatown, to San Quentin and the hills of Marin County.

Grant Sinclair was one of several pseudonyms used by Harry Sinclair Drago (1888-1979), an American novelist and screenwriter.
