This is an original, abstract encaustic painting inspired by the current bleaching of the great barrier reef. Layers of encaustic are slowly applied in accretion techniques. Layers of wax upon wax upon wax were applied and heatset in place, leaving valleys and textures in the wax. This technique is called forming an accretion, much the same way that areas of reefs and ocean floors form. The color is predominantly white, as influenced by the bleaching of the great barrier reef; however underlayers show areas of copper, blue and green....life that once was.
