Morning glory, Pōhuehue, shells, and sand are hand painted on this scarf celebrating a morning beach walk. The flowers usually last only one day. My granddaughter has a small shell collection gathered on our walks and they are featured actual size on this scarf. Pōhuehue is a native indigenous plant and is a member of the morning glory family. It is a shrub with the spreading stems that travel along the ground. Native Hawaiians had many uses for these vines. They were mashed for sprains and were bound with a kapa bandage. Kapa is a fabric that was made by Native Hawaiians from the fibers of certain species of trees and shrubs.
My designs are created to be worn in different styles so please enjoy playing to see how they look on you. As this scarf is painted on silk that is light as a feather and 15 inches wide you can play with it wearing it narrow and long or wide as your shoulder or tied around your head. It is hand hemmed so you can also wear it either side out. You can rinse it in cool water and shape it on a padded hanger or dry iron it into a wearing style.
