I believe this to be an Iroquois, possibly Mohawk, Native American pin cushion from the late 1800's, possibly early 1900's. These were very popular in this era, and earlier, for tourist, and for their own use. Most that I have seen in researching this, had names on the front or dates. Many were plain, as this one.
This one has seen use and wear from age. When I acquired this one, beads were missing, and even some were coming loose as I was looking at it. I was able to save the beads that were coming loose, (picture 10). Unfortunately, there are are quite a few missing from this, and the strings attached, still, show this. There is some wear and tear in the material. I tried to post pictures of most of this, (please see pictures). This pin cushion is still a very nice piece of history, and is still a beautiful piece.
The beads that are still attached I believe are glass, and are still colorful. Yes, some loose, as I believe there was a handle, and it's no longer there, (picture 9). Which also has the pocket for sewing needs to be kept and stored. Or some of these to be hung on the wall.
I'm not an expert on these pin cushions, shops but did research this, and found much info on them. So I'm trying to add as much info on this as possible.
This measure apprx. 5" x 7 1/2" with the bead fringe. It's pink in color on the front, with a red, or darker pink color on the back. The front is a muslin like material with the back being a polished cotton, which I learned was used in most of these.
