Vintage shops Round Full Moon Sterling Dark Blue Lapis Lazuli Native American Earrings

Signed O and Sterling but I could not identify the maker/silversmith.

I revamped these from post style into dangles by removing the posts and adding new sturdy sterling wires that I purchase from an Etsy seller.

The photos show them brighter blue than they are. They are a deep, dark almost midnight blue...very pretty.

Each earring weighs right at 4.9 grams which is just about the same a nickel which is 4.98 grams. Med weight, not too heavy.

Excellent condition, dark blue lapis with bright flecks of pyrite.... Lapis lazuli is a sodium aluminum silicate with Sulphur, chlorine hydroxyl, and variable in pyrite and white calcite. The name means "blue rock" and is always a brilliant blue with violet or greenish tints. The rich blue color is due to the lazurite that is an essential component of this mineral.

The most valued lapis contains little or no pyrite and no calcite, and is an intense, uniform, medium-dark, slightly violet blue.

I have always loved the pyrite flecks in lapis because to me they look like stars in the night sky...I only recently learned the monetary value of lapis with no or minimal flecks.
