Gustav Klimt-inspired Murano Glass bracelet with Gold-foil beads flecked with Moretti glass and Gold-foil shops Red Cubes
Skilled Murano beadmakers were inspired by Gustav Klimt's gold mosaics when they made a series of round and disc-shaped gold-foil beads spattered with multi-colored bits of Moretti glass then encased in clear glass. To bring out the reds in the mosaid bead, the Duchess paired it with red Murano glass cubes with a heart of gold foil. Accent beads of bright Vermeil (sterling silver plated with 24k gold) bring out the gold foil. This a bold bracelet. The round mosaic beads are 14 mm and the red cubes shops are 10mm. The bracelet, which measures 8 inches, but can be adjusted upon request.
During his “Golden Phase” Gustav Klimt, the Austrian symbolist painter and member of the art nouveau movement was inspired by the gold Byzantine mosaics he studied in Venice and Ravenna. He began using gold leaf in many of his paintings during this period including his iconic painting: “The Kiss” (1907-1908). The Kiss is widely believed to an image of Klimt with his lifelong companion, Louise Floge, who stayed with him despite his many relationships with other women and fathering at least 14 children.
