An antique Italian floral inlay Marquetry heavy wood jewelry trinket box, circa late 19th century.
In Fair-to-midland & somewhat rough shape. Lacquer finish exposed to elements/sun and shows heavy “whitening throughout entire box body. In addition, there is peeling of lacquer finish. Notable peeling on side of box, right side of box. Evident deep scratch on lid. May and does have subtle surface scratches throughout entire body (other scratches are not readily notable). Gash on to box lid, side of box/on the right shops side. Peeling of inlay, both right and left side of box.
Hinges firmly in place. No loose elements, no movement within hinge frame/firmly and securely mounted. Top locking mechanism firmly and securely in place. Bottom lock and keyhole firmly and securely mounted. No key available. Hence, unable to verify the functionality of lock. Lid marries correctly and securely into box.
Inside box Velvet lining has evident aging/scratches and staining both top and bottom. Nevertheless textile feels and smells clean. Textile firmly in place. No “loosening” areas, no evidence of compromised areas.
Bottom textile has evident aging through entire piece, heavy erosion/wearing of textile. Does have loose threads along edges. Textile looks, feels, and smells clean.
