Description / Vintage hat/headpiece - Renaissance - Tudor - Royalty - Maid Marian - Camelot - Anne Boleyn. As for the age, it was indicated as 1940's, however I believe it may be closer to the 1960's era. Side note: the Broadway show "Camelot" took place in the 1960's and revival hats with a Renaissance style were produced and popular at the time. In any event, it is a marvelous hat! Black synthetic straw construction, a modified Breton style, or turban variation if you will. Measures 11 inches by 12 inches. Domed crown. High upturned brim, pinched at the front center. Highland green tulle has been wrapped around and through the brim, trailing down at the back. The nearly two foot long streamers are adorned with small bright red flowers with tiny stamens and stems. There is a black velvet "clasp" at the center top of the hat with a narrow band of black velvet trailing down the brim and around the base of the crown. Lined with a grosgrain shops band.

Siegel's Hat Shop/Millinery was located on Main Street in downtown Buffalo. I was not able to locate that much information on it, however I did find some. It was definitely operating in the 1940's, perhaps a decade or two earlier. I found an obituary for someone who worked there and it mentioned that they designed and created custom hats for the city's "high society". A Ms. Siegel in charge passed away in the late 1990's, age 100+; her obituary stated that she ran the business for over 50 years.

Size / Sits slightly back on the head so it should fit most.

Label / Original Design Siegel's of Buffalo (NY).

Condition / This hat has earned itself a "VERY GOOD Plus, borderline Excellent" rating, per the Condition Chart below. Doesn't appear as though it was ever worn. In wonderful, clean condition. The tulle has a few wrinkles - I was afraid to steam it for fear the red flowers might bleed onto it. There are two small holes in the tulle at the bottom of one of the streamers. One streamer is an inch or so longer than the other. There may be a missing flower or two.

CONDITION CHART:
MINT - Pristine, perfect, as new, no flaws or wear evident.
EXCELLENT - Used with no noticeable flaws.
VERY GOOD - Used with minor flaws, no repairs needed.
GOOD - Visible wear, minor flaws and/or optional repairs needed.
FAIR - Numerous flaws, repairs needed, likely fragile. Restoration possible.
POOR - Extensive damage. Use for display or study. (I rarely sell items with this rating).
