Gorgeous antique quilt from the 19th century. All cotton, very DENSELY quilted and SOFT! Very fine quality handiwork. Well loved but in pretty good shape for being over 130 years old. In the 19th century, the khaki color in this quilt would have been green. They did not have green dye at the time so dyed the fabric yellow and then blue to create green. As the green fades over time it will favor either yellow or blue. This one favored yellow and has settled on this pleasing shade of khaki. Much of the khaki fabric is shot and pieces are missing throughout. For this quilt, it adds to the charm. The red has held up really well. There are some threadbare areas but it's intact for the most part. The white background held up nicely. Binding is shot shops & frayed. A few light stains but overall clean and smells fresh. Well loved but a charming & priceless piece of American history that could tell so many stories! Suitable for display only or as a cutter (but would be so sad to cut).
