Vintage Hand Drawn Javanese Batik, Satrio Manah from Solo

This motif is mostly worn in engagement or wedding day which is believed the groom-to-be who wears this batik can accepted by the bride-to-be. This motif has meaning the knight who aiming the target with arc.

The style is called javanese batik. The motif called satrio manah. This batik features isen as background, floras and birds. The colors are sogan (brown) (as background), black and ivory (as motifs).

Condition: Has a 3mm hole but still in good condition as seen in picture (you may ask for more detailed pictures just send us a message).

Used to be worn as daily clothing as hip wrapper, tight around as sarong/bottom for Indonesian men/women especially in Java island, before the more practical western style of pants shops and skirts became daily clothing.

A handdrawn batik is produced through labourious work, started from hand sketching, applying wax painting on each dots and strokes to resist coloring, and accordingly successive coloring processes. Each piece can take up from 1-4 months of work depending on the complexity and sophistication of the motif.
