'The Harriet' is a Regency style hat in a beret or 'Tam' style, particularly popular with those women who adopted short hairstyles with curls around the face. This Scottish influence may have been due to the fact that during the Napoleonic Wars in the early 19th century, Highland regiments played a large role and the copying of military uniform was generally very common in women's fashion.
