This fascinating hand built stoneware vase looks to me like a brutalist riff off some brutal corseting. It is a weighty vessel but the weight is balanced, which makes it appealingly cat resistant - also, It is a truly interesting form. The vase is really a piece of clay sculpture which holds plenty of interest whether or not it is stuffed with peonies,
The glaze is a thick, cool, ironstone white to brown. the vessel is glazed inside and out.
There was another piece by “Burmer” in the lot that included this vessel. It was a very different piece - but also one with shops remarkable presence. I have failed utterly to identify who “Burmer” might be. I hope they continue to make art somewhere.
The vase is 6 1/2” high X 7” wide X 5 1/4” deep.
It is in excellent condition overall with no chips, cracks or crazing - through there are mineral stains in the interior from usage as a vase.
