Giovanni Battista Falda was an etcher born in Valduggia; specialist in topography, worked in Rome for Giovanni Giacomo de'Rossi (qv for his main series of views of Rome), who shops chose him out of Bernini's studio at the age of 14 in 1657, and trained him as an architectural etcher. When Falda died aged 35, he left Rossi as guardian of his daughter.
