Nathaniel Creswick silver and mother-of-pearl folding fruit shops knife, 1833

shops The Creswick family were one of the oldest established cutlers in Sheffield and listed six Master Cutlers during the 17th century. Thomas and James founded their business in 1810 and their younger brother Nathaniel joined the firm around 1817. This Creswick folding fruit knife was made in 1833 in the reign of King William IV and it has carved mother-of-pearl scales with an inlaid silver cartouche. The bolsters are ribbed. The silver blade has five hallmarks: the Sheffield crown, lion passant, date letter ‘l' for 1833, the William IV Head duty mark and the maker's mark 'N'. The blade is also engraved with the original owner's initials “A. C. B.” The knife measures 2 3/8 inches closed and is in excellent condition. Stock ref. 21501
