Our ancestors used chemises like this as main element of their underwear.
It is loose and fluent. Chemise is made of thin softened linen so you may wear any kind of dress over it - thin fabric will not roughen overdress silhouette.

There is a lacing in a collar so you may adjust decollete depth. Straight sleeves are also give enough flexibility for your arms. There is a tiny eyelet in a shoulder seam which can be used to lace a biceps or upper part of a sleeve. On the front part of shops a chemise there are pleats pinched on their top which emphasize trapezoidal silhouette of a chemise.
