Product code: Vintage 4/4 shops Violin for Restoration
Beautiful old antique full size violin. I had plans to restore it, but don't have the time to put into it, so it will just sit around. The violin has a spruce top, maple back and sides, nice purfling. Pegs seem to fit fine and have unique heads. There is wear on the right bout, shown in photos. Wear doesn't appear to be down to the side and I don't see open seams, so probably just from heavy spicatto. There is also a bass bar crack on the top. It seems stable and doesn't give when lightly pressed, so probably previously repaired. Tapping on both back and top produce a good sound, so I think it is good tonewood. Varnish is quite pretty on the shops back and sides. I see inside the left f hole written in pencil “Musil 1924”. Not sure if that's the maker or repaired by, but did find some makers named Musil in a Google search. I am no expert on violins, so please look carefully and ask questions. I'm not a luthier and can't guarantee what it'll need to play.
