Product code: Ethiopia : King Solomon Meets shops Son

Gouache Painting on Goat Skin. Painted by Ethiopian Student Artist Taytu Seid in 1970-71. It depicts King Solomon meeting his Son for the first time when he was in his 20's. Rather than looking like a happy occasion, everyone looks sad so as I looked into it, the story says King Solomon "tricked" the Queen of Sheba into sleeping with him leaving her with a Son. She raised the Boy in the Jewish faith so when he came of age in shops his 20's, he was summoned to Jerusalem where his Father wanted him to stay and become King. The Son, Menelik, decided to return to Ethiopia and become the first King of the Solomonic Empire which ruled the regions around modern-day Ethiopia and parts of Arabia for 225 successive generations almost 3,000 years.

The frame has some definite wear but I'm going to leave everything original to its January 1972 purchase. They Buyer can decide to restore/reframe. The stretched Goatskin media is very interesting and the paint is still vibrant.
