Stunning extra large platter in Ruby Red Panel Grape by L.G. Wright Glass of New Martinsville, West Virginia. Piece is technically the underplate for a punch bowl set; however, it is a fantastic serving dish or centerpiece with a center well shops for a dip dish, a large pillar candle, or floral vase. The underside has a raised pattern of grape clusters and leaves reflecting through an 18-panelled, ribbed and scalloped round plate.

Wright began purchasing moulds for Panel Grape in the late 1930s; however, I believe Ruby Red was not available until the mid-1940s. Wright contracted out the manufacture of its glass patterns, many of which were reproductions of antique American pattern glass. This pattern is likely a copy of Westmoreland's Panelled Grape (slightly different name). Viking Glass produced much of Wright's Ruby Red, and the smooth, fire polished, deep luster of this glass supports the likelihood that Viking did make this platter.
