We all love a 1940s spectator shoe dont we ladies, and these are in such a handy colour. Original 1940s shoes, theyre in a combination of pidgeon grey suede and matching grey leather trim. In a fetching silhouette with peep toes, slingback straps and thick, squared high heels, the grey suede base is given spectator style with the toe caps and heels done in the contrast grey leather, with a dapper perforated trim bordering the shaped toe boxes and upper edges. Stellar. Although they have seen some life, theyre ready to finish that 1940s print rayon frock or grey gabardine suit to perfection, right down to your toes.
Measurements:
length: 9 1/2" measured along interior insole from toe to heel, following curve of footbed.
width: 2 7/8" Measured across interior sole at widest point of ball of foot.
heel height : 3 1/4"
* please go by measurements given. My listing of US size 7 ( UK 5) is an educated guess- I am going by markings, measurements and fit. They are marked as a US 7 A (UK 5) which seems accurate; I am a US 8 1/2 (UK 6 1/2) and they are indeed too small. Width is just slightly slim- the A width stamp (meaning slightly slim) seems accurate, although they have softened and been worn in with wear. *
Labels: Insoles are damaged, but left insole still reads 'Saks Fifth Avenue.. fenton last'. Handwritten markings on straps read '7 a' the US size. Good quality shoes.
Condition: these shoes are in fair vintage condition. NO separation between uppers and soles, they are strong and ready to wear. They do show having had plenty of wear; some darkening to each heel, moreso the right one, see pic; both insoles and outer leather soles have had something adhered to them in the past, likely pads inside to help fit, and rubber on soles and heels to prevent slipping, and have left marks on inside and outside, see the pics provided; I also found when modelling the shoes that a bit of stickiness remains on each sole, but this should wear away quickly with use. The straps have softened with wear and the lining under right strap has splits, see pic. Suede is good, with just one fine dash on outside wall of left shoe and a very small lighter point on inside wall of left shoe beside toe box. There is a bit of a lean towards the outside, but this looks like it could be purely the heel tips wearing down towards the outside, see pic. All in all, shoes that have seen plenty of life, but still present well when worn, and are ready to finish yet more 1940s ensembles to original perfection.
